The occasion is the recent acquisition of the painting No. 6, Sienna Orange on Wine (1962) by Mark Rothko, which is on view in the current exhibition.

This exhibition explores abstraction as a modern, universal visual language. The focus is on significant paintings by Carmen Herrera, Wassily Kandinsky, and Mark Rothko. Along with 50 additional works spanning 120 years, they illustrate three approaches to abstraction: geometric construction, the departure from the representational, and the dissolution of form into spaces of color.
